4 Essential Tips to Stay Energized and Healthy During the Holiday
This month I just wanted to give you 4 tips as we come into the holiday season.
Holidays make it easy for us to over indulge and sometimes put on a few pounds. You get to see your best friends and family that you might not see often so it’s easy to sit and talk while unintentionally snacking and/or drinking for hours at a time. Next thing you know you’re a bottle (or a couple bottles) of wine in and accidentally ate a tray of cookies. So many people start the year off feeling tired and lethargic but you don’t have to. Here are 4 things to keep you on your “A” game this holiday season. Cheers!
MOVE! Keep moving. Try not to sit around drinking and eating. Go for walks to catch up. Park further away from the front door when you go shopping. Take the stairs over escalators and elevators.
Stay hydrated. Make sure to drink your water, especially if you’re adding alcohol into the mix. This will not only help you feel better, it will (or should lol) help you drink less too. Drinking water will also help you curb some of the mindless snacking. Being around so many snacks might make you think you’re hungry when you’re not. Trust me when I say I can easily lose it around homemade cookies during the holidays. I turn into an overweight kid that just wants to stuff my face with sweets and skip dinner which brings us into our next tip…
Be mindful. Be mindful of what and/or how much you’re eating & drinking. Be mindful of how much you’re sitting or laying around. Remember to get up and move! Be mindful of your emotions & energy. But also be mindful of others. Holidays aren’t happy and joyful for everybody. If someone needs a smile, give em one. It’s free:)
Stay in your routine as much as possible. Holidays can be a crazy busy time of year and that makes it easy to fall out of our routines. All of a sudden we’re snacking more, sleeping less, stressed, etc. our workouts were coming along great and then all of a sudden it’s been weeks since you worked out. If going to the gym is not an option you can try some home workouts with the family, go for a walk or jog. Try checking out a local gym where you are and join a class if possible. I will post some bodyweight and band holiday circuits, but you can also find any kind of workout you want on youtube. Time doesn’t matter. Do what you can with what you have.
