The S.M.A.R.T. Way to Stick to Your New Year's Fitness Resolution
The day we picked up the keys to the gym
As we come to the end of January, how are you doing on your New Year’s resolutions?
So many people start the new year off strong with all this energy and excitement to start their fitness journey and obtain all of these healthy goals but sadly have already given up and reverted back to old ways. I started in a big box gym and we saw it every year. January 1st the gym is packed. Fast forward three weeks and it’s almost back to what it was before the holidays. Now I absolutely love goal setting but they have to be realistic too. Time and time again I’ve seen people come into the gym trying to lose 30-40 years worth of weight in 2 weeks. Overnight they want to change their whole life’s habits. That’s crazy, and not realistic.
When you’re setting a goal for yourself make sure it is a S.M.A.R.T. one! What do I mean by that? Make sure your goals is:
1. Specific
2. Measurable
3. Achievable
4. Realistic
5. Timely
Now if you or someone you know has hit this new year slump, don’t give up! We still have a whole year. Don’t wait until next year to try again. Setbacks make for great comebacks! Pick back up, make adjustments and keep doing that as many times as you need to until you become the person that can achieve your goal. Keep your eye on the prize but don’t just focus on the goal. Focus on building the daily habits this goal requires and I’m sure you will get there.
